Our Curriculum
At Pixie Magic Nurseries, we believe that every moment of childhood is an opportunity to learn! That is why it is our mission to inspire every child in our nursery and pre-school to THINK, EXPLORE, COMMUNICATE and LEAD through guided and creative play. Each child is afforded the opportunity to gain information in the way he/she naturally is inclined to and thereby allowing the opportunity for every child to thrive in ALL areas of Learning and development as set out in the EYFS Statutory Framework.
Our Approach
At Pixie Magic Nurseries, we set our curriculum to embrace the whole child by providing high standards of education through play in fun rooms that are decorated and endorsed with creativity, imagination and love, lead by high energy staff in a relaxed and positive environment. Every child in our nursery is made to feel special and unique, capable to succeed on their own terms without compromising on values and the highest standard of care and education.
Communication and Language Development
Your child’s spoken language underpins all seven areas of learning and development. Through back and forth interactions, at Pixie Magic Nurseries, we know that from an early age, this forms the foundation for language and cognitive development. By providing a safe space, we ensure that your child will be enriched in their area of language development through story telling and role play, social interaction, songs & rhymes, reading activities and language-rich materials which expose them to a variety of vocabulary and language structures
Physical Development
Gross and fine motor skills develop incrementally throughout early childhood, starting with sensory explorations and the development of a child’s strength, co-ordination and positional awareness through tummy time, crawling and play movement with both objects and adults. Therefore, at Pixie Magic Nurseries we understand that sensory activities like puzzles, arts and crafts, messy play, outdoor play and the practice of using small tools help promote and stimulate your child’s sensory exploration through their five senses (sight, hearing, touch, taste and smell)
Personal, Social and Emotional Development
At Pixie Magic Nurseries, we believe that it is vital that your child learns to understand and manage their emotions and feelings, and the feelings of others around them as this underpins their personal development which is vital in shaping their social world. We believe that your child should be supported to manage their emotions, develop a positive sense of self, set themselves simple goals, have confidence in their own abilities, to persist and wait for what they want and direct attention as necessary. We will support your child to look after their bodies, including healthy eating, manage personal needs independently and learn how to make good friendships, co-operate and resolve conflicts peacefully. Thereby, your child learns to build positive relationships and navigate social interactions which is crucial for when they attend school and in their later life.
Literacy Skills
The EYFS Statutory Framework states that it is crucial for children to develop a life-long love of reading and we at Pixie Magic Nurseries could not agree more! Literacy development is such a dynamic and unique dimension where reality and imagination both co-exist as language comprehension starts from birth. This is predominately achieved through adult engagement by talking with children about the world around them and reading books (fiction and non-fiction) with them, and enjoy rhymes, poems and songs together.
Numeracy Skills
Children should be able to count confidently, develop a deep understanding of the numbers 1 to 10, the relationships between them and the patterns within those numbers. By providing various activities such as hands-on, play-based activities, intentional teaching practices and providing a rich mathematical environment that encourages exploration, discovery and problem solving, Pixie Magic Nurseries ensures that your child will develop a secure base of knowledge and vocabulary from which mastery of mathematics is built.
Understanding the World and Practical Life Skills
At our Nurseries, we guide your child to make sense of their physical world and their community. We achieve this by visiting parks, libraries and museums, and meeting important members of society such as police officers, Fire fighters, nurses and doctors. At Pixie Magic Nurseries, we support you by teaching your child practical life skills through activities that promote independency, concentration, and fine and gross motor skills. Activities like pouring and transferring exercises, threading and lacing, and self-care are some of our enrichment programs that promote an understanding of our culturally, socially, technologically and ecologically diverse world.
Expressive Arts and Design
This development process has to be Pixie Magic Nurseries’ favourite! This is because it is the development of your child’s artistic and cultural awareness through imagination and creativity. We believe that it is important for your child to engage in the Arts – Music, drama, etc. by enabling them to explore and play with a wide range of instruments, media and materials. We trully believe that the quality and variety of what your child sees, hears and participates in is crucial for developing their understanding, self-expression, vocabulary and ability to communicate through the Arts.
